When you open a bottle cap, have you ever noticed the aluminum foil gasket tightly attached to the bottle opening? It may seem insignificant, but it plays a crucial role in sealing against moisture, preventing contamination, and extending the product's shelf life. In food packaging, pharmaceutical encapsulation, and daily chemical products, the choice of aluminum foil gasket material directly affects product quality and user experience. Among the many aluminum foil grades, 1060 aluminum and 8011 alloy are the two most commonly used.
1060 aluminum foil belongs to the 1000 series of industrial pure aluminum, with an aluminum content of over 99.6% and very few impurities. This high purity brings two major advantages: first, excellent ductility, allowing it to be easily rolled into ultra-thin foil of 12-20μm, adapting to the sealing needs of various irregularly shaped bottle openings; second, excellent chemical stability, strong corrosion resistance, and it will not react chemically with components in food and pharmaceuticals, making it widely recognized for its safety.
However, pure aluminum also has inherent drawbacks: lower strength, making it prone to deformation under transportation bumps or external pressure, requiring high precision in the packaging process.
8011 aluminum foil is a representative of the 8000 series alloy aluminum, with the addition of alloying elements such as magnesium and iron to pure aluminum. This compositional improvement results in a "strength upgrade," significantly increasing its tensile strength compared to 1060 aluminum foil. It also offers superior puncture and tear resistance, maintaining better integrity during high-speed packaging on assembly lines and long-distance transportation.
Simultaneously, the addition of alloying elements enhances its heat resistance, allowing it to withstand higher temperatures without easily deforming. This characteristic is particularly important in scenarios requiring heat-sealing processes. However, its ductility is slightly inferior to 1060, making ultra-thin rolling relatively more difficult.
1060 Aluminum Foil
In the food and pharmaceutical packaging fields, where safety and sealing requirements are extremely high, 1060 aluminum foil is often the first choice. For example, in easily oxidized foods such as chocolate and candy, the high barrier properties of 1060 aluminum foil effectively prevent the intrusion of oxygen and moisture, preventing food spoilage due to moisture. In blister packaging for pharmaceuticals, it can isolate light and microorganisms, ensuring the stability and effectiveness of the drug's ingredients.
Furthermore, the ultra-thinness and excellent formability of 1060 aluminum foil are fully utilized in sample packaging for daily chemical products. It can tightly fit the openings of small-capacity cream and serum bottles, ensuring a good seal while allowing consumers to easily tear it open, enhancing the user experience. For products that do not require frequent handling and are stored in stable environments, the strength of 1060 aluminum foil is more than sufficient.
8011 Aluminium foil
When packaging needs to withstand more demanding environments, the alloy advantages of 8011 aluminum foil become apparent. In packaging for beverages, alcoholic beverages, and other products requiring long-distance transportation, bottle caps are more likely to be subjected to compression and impact. The high strength of 8011 aluminum foil effectively prevents gasket breakage and seal failure, reducing the risk of leakage.
In high-temperature processing scenarios, 8011 aluminum foil is also more competitive. For example, in some snack food packaging that requires heat sealing, it can withstand the high temperatures during the heat sealing process without deformation, ensuring a secure seal.
Meanwhile, in the field of industrial packaging, such as sealing the bottle caps of lubricants and chemical reagents, the puncture resistance of 8011 aluminum foil can prevent sharp impurities from damaging the gasket, ensuring that the contents are not contaminated. It is worth mentioning that 8011 aluminum foil also possesses non-toxic and odorless properties, and its safety in food contact applications fully complies with national standards.
